How long should I allow for a discovery appointment?

We normally suggest you allow an hour to an hour and a half for our first discovery meeting.  The time required for this appointment will really depend on the complexity of your situation.  It is important that we don't rush this step, as the better we understand your situation the better advice we can provide.

Will you provide me with advice in our first meeting?

The advice process has many steps.  We also have a legal obligation to provide you with a formal Statement of Advice (SOA) if we are recommending anything specific to your situation.  So the first meeting is to understand your circumstances, which will then allow us to be able to provide you with formal recommendations in the required format at a later stage.  We will happily answer as many questions as possible in our discovery meeting so you understand what to expect from the advice process.

How much will advice cost?

Our discovery consultations are complimentary.  Following our meeting, we will always provide you with a formal quote based on the scope of your advice and the complexity.  This is always unknown until we are able to understand what is required in your particular circumstance.  Once we have completed our initial analysis of your situation, we will provide our quote and terms of engagement for your approval prior to commencing any formal work.

Will I have to switch my super fund?

In order to determine whether your super fund is appropriate for you, we must understand your goals, investment preferences and risk profile.  We will only provide recommendations to move funds if your current fund does not meet your goals.

We can advise across many different super funds and have no affiliation with any specific super fund provider.

What information should I bring to my discovery consultation?

Once we have confirmed your appointment, we will send an e-mail containing what to bring.  It will including things like your superannuation details, payslips, investment details and personal insurance details.  With this information we can analyse your current situation and let you know whether there is anything you should be considering about your existing products or situation.

I'm nervous about seeing an adviser because I'm worried about what they might think of my financial position.

That's a natural feeling if you haven't spoken about your finances with anyone before.  We've met with clients in all sorts of financial positions from all sorts of backgrounds.

We're here to help and provide advice, not judge and give you criticism.  We'll make sure we help you feel comfortable throughout the meeting so you'll have nothing to worry about.

Can you provide online appointments?

We provide appointments in various locations.  We have offices in Brisbane City and Yeppoon in Central Queensland.

We are also happy to conduct appointments via Zoom if meeting in person is not convenient.

Do all of your clients need to have ongoing service?

No.  Ongoing Service is suitable for some clients and may not be required for others.  This really depends on what advice strategies you require and whether you want the ongoing involvement from an adviser.  We can talk to you about whether we think you would benefit from ongoing advice prior to providing you with a quote.

I already have an accountant.  Why do I need an adviser?

Accountants are experts at record-keeping for tax purposes.  They are also wonderful at giving you advice for your business structures and tax planning. They may also be doing the accounting for your self-managed super fund.

We provide advice across many different areas which aren't covered by an accountant like retirement planning, investments, wealth accumulation and insurance.

We love working alongside your accountant to ensure you've got all areas covered.

Do you need a license to provide advice?

All advisers in Australia who are providing personal advice are required to be licensed by a licensee.

The licensee is responsible for the monitoring and supervision of their representatives.

Our work is monitored at random by our licensee to ensure that we are complying with appropriate financial services laws.
